Welcome

Opava College is a joint project of the City of Opava (Czech Republic) and the Opava Cultural Organization. The goal of the project is to establish a new, independent Liberal Arts College, which would start operation by the Fall Semester 2012.

Currently, we are working on the General Curriculum. This includes identifying model institutions for possible collaboration, learning from their experience and best practices, and establishing a team of experts in the core areas who will work out detailed curricula in the respective fields.

The college campus will be located on the site of a former military base near the vibrant downtown of Opava with its vast pedestrian zone and in walking distance from all major cultural institutions, such as the Silesian University, Silesian Theatre, Silesian Provincial Museum, and many beautiful city parks and athletic facilities. The campus, which will enroll 800 to 1,200 students, offers several historical buildings set around the future college “quad” and 20 acres of land ready for building student dormitories and other necessary facilities.

The project at its current stage is supported by Project REPAIR, which is a part of the European Programme URBACT, funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
